Rules & Regulations

As far as I can tell, these rules are fairly clear. If they are not, and you require further explanation, e-mail me and I will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Acquisition of Items
It is the spirit of the ScavHunt to be fun and creative. As such, all items can and must be obtained legally. The ScavCom assumes no responsibility for teammembers that are incarcerated or otherwise punished by local, state, and federal law forces (both domestic and foreign) while participating in the Hunt. Meaning, if you get thrown in jail, it's your own damn fault.

Fair Play
While we want you all to have a good time, we also want to be sure that you act responsibly, especially to other teams. We will not and cannot condone sabotage of other teams (or their items) for the good of team and/or subsequent ScavHunt glory. If any member of your team is caught in the act of sabotaging items of another team, your team can be disqualified. If you or anyone else on your team cheats, your team can be disqualified, and may have to face disciplinary action from University administrators. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Contact with Judges
You and any other members of your team are to treat your Judges with the honor, dignity, and respect you would give to anyone in a position to give you money. Keep in mind that Judges are under no obligation to be polite or even curt during Judgment Day. Judges have a very long day, longer probably than the average teammember, and it is important to respect that duty. The less you bug them, the nicer they will be. If you are not a Team Captain, you are not allowed to address the Judges. If you are such a person and do it anyway, you will be punished by having points taken away (points to be determined at Judge's discretion). Additionally, all contact with Judges during the Hunt must be made through the Head Judge.

Points
All point totals are solid, final, immovable. Points will be awarded for the adequate and accurate execution of all list items. There are some items in which style will be rewarded with bonus points. If there are items for which you feel that you deserved more points than you got, then you are allowed the privilege of appealing the Judge's decision. (see ``Appeals'' below) Point values were determined by the ease or difficulty getting/performing/insert verb-ing each item, as perceived by the ScavCom.

Captains' Meeting
All Team Captains will have one opportunity to discuss the list with the ScavCom---As long as they buy breakfast. Captains' meeting will be at 7 am in the basement conference room of the Reynolds Club the morning after the lists are handed out (Thursday morning, that is). Do not forget the Dunkin' Donuts and none of those coconut Munchkins, either. Nobody in their right mind would eat those those nasty things.

Preliminary Events
The deadlines for the submission of items and performances are final as stated on the list or as announced by the Judges at the Captains' Meeting. It is the Captains' responsibility to make sure that they submit these in a timely manner.

Road Trip
The road trip can be accomplished following standard automotive rules. We know this; we did it. So, no speeding. Additionally, the road trip car can be driven only by people who are legally authorised to drive the car (if it's a rental, for example). Finally, don't deface items on the road trip. If only one team, for example, is able to get an item, and the other teams are complaining about how ``we got there and it was just a bunch of scratch marks,'' then the team that got the points will lose all road trip credit. Be fair. ScavHunt is fun.

Judgment Day
OK, we're all sick of judging taking 14 hours, so this year we're going to try and make it more organised. First, ScavOlympics starts at 10am on Sunday. Sharp. In all weather. A schedule of ScavOlympics will be distributed at the Captain's Meeting, and we're sticking to it. Three minutes before each item, a boat horn will blast, letting you know that you have three minutes to get that person in a bikini, for example. We won't tolerate tardiness.
In short, BE ORGANISED.
Additionally, at ScavOlympics, have a highlighted list ready to give to the Head Judge, so we can keep score well. During item judging, which will commence as soon as ScavOlympics is done, teams will be responsible to have all of their items ready to be judged in the following way: each team will post large signs for pages they are ready to have judged with no preparation time. If a Judge sees a sign for the page he or she has to judge, and then has to wait, that will be bad. During page judging, three minutes of idle time warrants a warning. Subsequent idle time nets a 50 point deduction per three minutes. Here's a tip: organise your items into bins per specific page.
In short, BE ORGANISED.

Appeals
Teams are allowed to appeal point awards that they felt were inadequate or inappropriate. The appeals must be submitted in writing to the Judge's Chambers by the end of Judgment Day. Include team and captain name, item number, and reason why the appeals have been filed. Judges will consider each request, and will discuss them with the Captain at the end of judging to discuss the final decision.

Items
All items remain the property of the team that secured it except for ingestable items---which must be surrendered at the discretion of the Judge---and items that explicitly call for surrender.

Prizes
All prizes come in the oh-so-delicious form of hard cash-money. Money awarded to house and dormitory teams will be automatically credited to the appropriate housing account unless otherwise requested. If the prize is to be awarded otherwise, then the Captain must provide the name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and student identification number in order for the prize to be awarded.

Decisions
All decisions of the Judges are final. Final.
